Garter Snake

As I was carrying buckets of used pig bedding out to the compost heap, I startled a garter snake that was sunning on the steps. I didn't even see it until it moved.

it says they may bite but it doesn't say if they are venomous

Oh no,, they are little non-venomous guys. We do have copperheads in this area which are our only venomous snake,, water moccasins are farther East, by about one county and rattlesnakes farther west. Interestingly, I would treat about four to six snakebites in dogs a year,, only ever had one cat. Animals do pretty darn well with it.
